OVWmania Presents: OVW Top 20 (16th Edition)

This is the OVW Top 20 for the week of August 21-27, 2012 exclusively on OVWmania. Where does everyone rank this week heading into the 10 year anniversary of Davis Arena and the next Saturday Night Special?

#1) "SMOOTH" JOHNNY SPADE (Last Week: #1)

CURRENT TITLES: OVW Heavyweight Champion

LAST MATCH: Defeated Rocco Bellagio.

*The champ was put to the test against BS 2.0's "Leg Breaker" and came out on top as he prepares for battle with Jamin Olivencia at SNS in an Iron Man Match. Their encounters have been close. Can Spade walk out once again as champion?

#1A) JAMIN OLIVENCIA (Last Week: #1A)

LAST MATCH: With Johnny Spade, lost to the "team" of Rob Terry & Ryan Howe by DQ.

*Jamin wants the OVW Heavyweight Title and will not stop until he reaches the top of the mountain. Can he finally win the big one at SNS by defeating Johnny Spade in 30 minutes of action?

#3) THE BEST TEAM EVER: Rudy Switchblade & Jessie Godderz (Last Week: #4)

CURRENT TITLES: OVW Southern Tag Team Champions

LAST MATCH: Defeated Michael Hayes & James "Moose" Thomas.

*The Best Team Ever finally got a victory over the #1 contenders Moose & Michael after being put in an impromptu title match. That bumps them back up the Top 20, but if they meet again, will the same outcome occur?
#4) MOOSE & MICHAEL HAYES (Last Week: #3)

LAST MATCH: Lost to the Best Team Ever.

*The #1 contenders found themselves fighting for tag team gold earlier than expected, but due to some cheap tactics, were unable to come out on top. Knowing the size of the heart and the fight that they have in them, they are going to be more than ready for their next opportunity.

#5) RYAN HOWE (Last Week: #5)

CURRENT TITLES: OVW Television Champion

LAST MATCH: Eliminated from the "Last Man In" Rumble.

*Rockin' Ryan was hoping to win the rumble, so that he would have an advantage at SNS to win the Nightmare Rumble. It seems as though he still has some unfinished business with former TV champion, Tony Gunn.
#6) ALEX SILVA (Last Week: #8)

LAST MATCH: Won the "Last Man In" Rumble.

*Silva finally got the competition he was looking for as he entered first and eliminated 9 other opponents to get the advantage in the Nightmare Rumble at SNS of entering last. Will he be able to do it again and go on to become #1 contender for the Heavyweight Title?

#7) ROB TERRY (Last Week: #6)

LAST MATCH: Eliminated from the "Last Man In" Rumble.

*Big Rob looked to have the clear size advantage, but thanks to an assist from a fellow TNA superstar, was eliminated from the chance to be last man in for the Nightmare Rumble. Rob is even angrier that he ran back out only to be nailed with a Silva Surfer for his efforts.

#8) TAELER HENDRIX (Last Week: #9)

CURRENT TITLES: OVW Women's Champion

LAST MATCH: Went to a no-contest with Heidi Lovelace.

*The reigning Women's Champion has been brawling like crazy with the rest of the ladies in OVW's Women's division. Is there something in the water? Will Taeler have to defend her title at SNS?

#9) CRIMSON (Last Week: #15)

LAST MATCH: Defeated Arik Kristopher.

*Crimson was using mind games as well as brute force this week. He dominated in his matchup before "assisting" one of his fellow TNA superstars out of the ring in the preview rumble. Was he helping his own odds, or does he have a beef with Big Rob?

#10) THE MOBILE HOMERS: Ted McNaler & Adam Revolver (Last Week: #11)

LAST MATCH: Defeated Raphael Constantine & Fabiano Rolento.

*The "rocket fuel" has kept Ted & Adam on the winning track, but they may want to keep it away from Ms. DeVore. The Mobile Homers are still hoping to work their way into position for a shot at the OVW Southern Tag Team Titles.

#11) ROCCO BELLAGIO (Last Week: #14)

LAST MATCH: Lost to Johnny Spade.

*Rocco failed to defeat the current OVW Heavyweight Champion, but made a great showing. Will the "Leg Breaker" have an opportunity to fight for the Heavyweight Title if he enters and wins the Nightmare Rumble at SNS?

#12) JASON WAYNE (Last Week: #14)

LAST MATCH: Eliminated from the "Last Man In" Rumble.

*Wayne came so close to getting the advantage at the Nightmare Rumble at SNS, but still made a good showing starting the preview rumble with Alex Silva, and finishing the same way. Can he reverse his fortune at SNS to become #1 contender?

#13) CHRIS SILVIO (Last Week: #7)

LAST MATCH: Eliminated from the "Last Man In" Rumble.

*The Psychedelic Superstar missed his chance to win the preview rumble after another attack by Cliff Compton, causing him to fall in this week's rankings.

#14) CLIFF COMPTON (Last Week: #10)

LAST MATCH: Lost to Chris Silvio in a 2-out-of-3 falls match at SNS.

*Cliff's current feud with Silvio has caused both men to take their eyes off the prize. Each has suffered a fall in the rankings and soon enough they are headed for a massive collision in the ring.

#15) TONY GUNN (Last Week: #12)

LAST MATCH: Eliminated from the "Last Man In" Rumble.

*Tony's beef with Ryan Howe caused both of them to be eliminated from the preview rumble. Is he focused on retrieving the TV Title he only held for a couple weeks, or does Ralphie want him to go for the big one?

#16) JESSIE BELLE (Last Week: #16)

LAST MATCH: Went to a no-contest with Taeler Hendrix.

*Jessie Belle wants another opportunity at Taeler Hendrix and the OVW Women's Championship. Will she get her shot at SNS, and prove that real redheads are better in the process?

#17) THE WILD CARDS: Shiloh Jonze & "Rudo" Raul LaMotta (Last Week: #17)

LAST MATCH: Shiloh defeated Jessie Godderz.

*These "jokers" could upset anyone at anytime given the opportunity, but that's been their complaint the entire time. They haven't been given those opportunities. What will they do next to prove they deserve a chance?

#18) JOE COLEMAN (Last Week: #14)

LAST WEEK: Eliminated in the "Last Man In" Rumble.

*The Jacked Knight was hoping that he and Jason Wayne together could eliminate their competition from the preview rumble, but he ended up becoming the first elimination. Will he have a better outcome at SNS?

#19) RANDY ROYAL (Last Week: #20)

LAST MATCH: Defeated Eddie Diamond.

*The Double R Superstar proved what he could do in the ring this week and is ready for more than just a twitter war.

#20) BRANDON ESPINOSA (Last Week: NR)

LAST MATCH: Eliminated in the "Last Man In" Rumble.

*Espy returns to the Top 20 after an extended absence, and looks to make some noise as a singles' competitor while his "partner" is on Broadway.

MISSING THE CUT:
-Jack Black
*The only member of BS 2.0 to come up short on making this week's list, but Black is large and always ready to make a charge.

-Dylan Bostic
*Bostic was eliminated in the preview rumble and was also eliminated from this week's Top 20. He will have to prove his worth to both the Top 20 and Taeler Hendrix at SNS in order to climb back up.

-The Assassin
*Tick tock...it's only a matter of time before the Assassin gets a hold of Ricky Chevy and maybe a spot on an upcoming Top 20.

KEEP AN EYE ON:
*Mohamad Ali Vaez
 (Where has he been?)
*Epiphany
(Big threat in the Women's division)
*Heidi Lovelace
(Also wants to make her presence in the Women's division known)
*Elvis Pridemoore
(The hip-hop hillbilly wants to prove what he can do)
*Fabiano Rolento
(Talented star, but can he keep his concentration off the "mamacitas"?)

***Special thanks to "Mr. SC" for his input/votes on this week's Top 20***

  1. Another week, same story. The same talent is used week in and week out to fill the main storylines. Time for some new talent to come in and give us something fresh.

  2. Good job. A few comments and a recommendation. I would swap Moose and Hayes with Crimson. While new, Crimson is making a huge showing at OVW. Also, remove Jessie Belle and replace her with Heidi. Heidi is establishing herself at OVW and from what I read on other reports, she is in strong contention for the belt. Heidi has been representing OVW at other promotions is still a new face at this promotion. As returning Alum, Jessie is a great athlete, but she did not have a match last week. Also, compliments to you on recognizing the OVW wrestlers who made the PWI listing. But, you neglected to mention that Taeler has been in the PWI’s Top 10 weekly rankings for the past 7 weeks.
A suggestion. Ever think about reducing your weekly Top 20 to a weekly Top 10? Yes, your ratings would have to be more scientific and objective. They would need to include the wrestler’s contributions to their build ups, their match results at house events, their weekly results and their history. Yes, this would be more work, but I believe you and your readers would be surprised by the results. Again, only a suggestion. Keep up the great work and have fun tonight at the taping.
